ANNOUNCING: Capitalism Nature Socialism’s Special Issue Release Party for ‘Power, Peace and Protest: Ecofeminist Action, Vision and Alternatives’
April 28th, 2018, 2:00-4:00 pm
Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space, 155 Avenue C

The March 2018 ecofeminist special issue of the journal Capitalism Nature Socialism seeks to highlight some of the ecofeminist actions, visions, and alternatives that women commoners and their allies around the world are now enacting, at the forefront of movements towards a post-fossil-capitalist epoch. For us, ecofeminism is based on an understanding that women and Nature are exploited by capitalists. Ecofeminist action stands against this exploitation and affirms the commons. We see ‘re-commoning’ being undertaken through direct actions to stop capitalist destruction; defend and build community-controlled food and renewable energy production and exchange; and extend command over the shared life-ground on which all people, and other beings, depend.

The special issue features essays on ecofeminism in South Africa, Honduras, Costa Rica, USA, Germany, Canada and elsewhere, as well as in the building of global movements of social movements. It also includes woodblock prints, book reviews, a comic strip by Seth Tobocman and poems by Canadian spoken word artist, Truth Is; Mennonite poet, Di Brandt and musician Billy Bragg.

Come celebrate the release of the ecofeminist special issue with the editors and some of the contributing authors, including Seth Tobocman, who will give a slide show presentation of his recent work. Music, art and readings at the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space on Saturday, 28 April 2018, 2:00-4:00p.m.
