Women of LES FF Poster

Stories by and about women of the Lower East Side will appear on movie screens throughout the East Village in locations ranging from Community Gardens, The Anthology Film Archives and the recently-opened Loisaida, Inc beginning Friday, August 1, with WHAT ABOUT ME, an indie cult favorite directed by Rachel Amodeo, and closing Saturday, August 9, with the powerful comic fantasy, BORN IN FLAMES, directed by Lizzie Borden.  Offering a rare look at the neighborhood from a century ago, the silent film HUNGRY HEARTS will screen on Wednesday, August 6.   HUNGRY HEARTS is based on the short stories of Jewish-American novelist Anzia Yezierska, whose life will also be explored during the Film Fest with the airing of SWEATSHOP CINDERELLA by Suzanne Wasserman on Sunday, August 3.   Also turning a lens of the lives of women in the neighborhood will be two selections from Steve Zehentner and Penny Arcade’s LES Biography Project with profiles of activist/author Sarah Schulman and activist/gardener/”mother of Loisaida,” Carmen Pabon airing on Thursday, August 7.

A limited supply of all-inclusive passes for $20.00 are now on sale at morusfilmfest.eventbrite.com or by visiting MoRUS, 155 Avenue C between 9th and 10th Streets during hours of operation. Admission to each individual screening will otherwise require a suggested donation of $5.00, with the exception of opening night’s screening of WHAT ABOUT ME, which without a MoRUS All-Inclusive Pass will be $10 general; $8 for students, seniors, & children (12 & under); $6 AFA member.
